Overview: Hemianthus micranthemoides is a native of North America and is one of the most graceful aquatic plants. It is also called pearl weed due to its small and round-shaped leaves. The tissue cultured plant of Hemianthus micranthemoides is safe for all types of aquariums and can be used extensively. The plant has small and arched leaves that make it look very beautiful. With the trailing growth habit in the presence of intensive lighting, the plant spreads around and covers the aquascape easily. It can be used as a foreground or midground plant in which the stem doesn’t grow more than 10 to 20 cm tall and attain the width of 2 to 3 cm. Hemianthus micranthemoides when proliferate, grow in bunches and form a compact group. It looks gorgeous with the light green small-sized leaves.

Advantages: Since this is a tissue cultured plant of Hemianthus micranthemoides, there will be no chances of pest infestation or alteration of water parameter due to it. Care: Before introducing a tissue cultured Hemianthus micranthemoides in the aquarium, eradicate the tissue culture gel. Wash the gel out with the help of clean water or remove it from your hands. Once established, you need to take special care by regularly trimming the plant to maintain the desired density of the foliage and compactness.

Light requirements: Hemianthus micranthemoides require medium light for their growth and development. Supplementing the plant with carbon dioxide will prove to be beneficial. It shows moderate growth and is easy to maintain.

pH requirements: The plant can thrive well under the pH requirements ranging between 5.5-8.0.

Other requirements: Providing carbon dioxide, along with the right dose of calcium and potassium, will enhance the growth and development of the plant. The right temperature and pH range are also equally important.

Propagation: Hemianthus micranthemoides flowers when remaining in the fully immersed state. Vegetative propagation is widely practiced to culture the plant. All that you need is snipping off the pieces of the stems and group several together. Later, bury them partially in the substrate and let the new branches evolve.
