Why some plants are red in color?
Plants whose stems and leaves contain a high quantity of anthocyanins reflect red color instead of green. Anthocyanin pigment is one of the most common reasons for red coloration in plants. These are water-soluble pigments found in the cells of plants, giving them red, purple, or blue depending on the pH of the cell sap.
The major role of anthocyanin is to protect the plant’s DNA from harmful and strong ultraviolet rays.
