Cryptocoryne wendtii 'Tropica'

Overview: Also, called as Cryptocoryne wendtii 'Bronze and Tropica Water Trumpet, Cryptocoryne wendtii ‘Tropica’ is a robust crypt. The plant gets its name from the nursery Tropica located in Sri Lanka which is also its origin place. It is a beautiful aquarium plant, time tested and used by many aquarists in the past. Due to its amazingly patterned growth and leaves it has gained much popularity among the hobbyists. Since the plant does not grow very huge in size, it is perfect for aquariums that are small in size. It can grow preferably well in hard water like other crypts with Sri Lankan origin.

Appearance: The leaves of the plant Cryptocoryne wendtii ‘Tropica’ are generally broad that gets dark and hammered when grown under or totally immersed in the water.  The leaves are 10-15 cm long and 10-20 cm wide. The small size makes the plant apt for nano or small size tanks. Once can propagate the plant via different means like Runners, Rhizomteilung, Splitting, cutting off daughter plants. Due to its medium size, it can be used either as a mid-ground plant or foreground plant.

Hard/soft Plant: It is a medium hardy plant that can grow well in hard water as well.

Ideal water temperature: The temperature tolerance for Cryptocoryne wendtii ‘Tropica’ ranges between 15-30 °C. It makes the plant ideal for most of the environmental conditions.

Lightening conditions: The plant requires medium light for thriving well. The brown hammered leaves showoff well under proper lighting conditions only.

Ideal pH level: The plant can tolerate pH in the range of 5-8 easily and flourish well.

Do you know: If you try growing Cryptocoryne wendtii ‘Tropica’ in an open space unlike in the water, the leaves will reside only at the bottom.
