Myriophyllum tuberculatum (common name: Red watermilfoil)

Overview: Very common aquatic plant in the United States and native to slow flowing and stagnant waters of Northern regions of South America, Myriophyllum tuberculatum is characterized by it’s reddish to rusty reddish brown coloration. This plant is fairly demanding and does not grow well or may even die under inadequate nutrients. This aquarium plant is an excellent choice for aquascaping because of its colorful accents and contrasting properties.

Appearance:  Under favorable conditions, the leaf whorls of Myriophyllum tuberculatum can attain a diameter of 10cm and a reddish rusty color. Myriophyllum tuberculatum grows many lateral shoots along the water surface and creates a bushy appearance, therefore pruning and trimming is highly recommended. When planted in groups, this plant looks like a beautiful fireball.

Ideal water temperature conditions: Myriophyllum tuberculatum can sustain temperatures between 5 and 28 degree Celsius.

Lighting conditions: Myriophyllum tuberculatum requires high lighting intensity of at least 0.8 watts per liter. In absence of proper lighting, the plant will not achieve the stunning reddish brown coloration.

Ideal pH conditions: Myriophyllum tuberculatum tolerates pH levels between 5 and 7.
