Overview: Echinodorus parviflorus Tropica is native to South America and is a sword plant. The most fascinating feature of the plant is its sword-like leaves that enhance the outlook of the aquarium to a great extent. The Tropical cultivar, although, resembles the wild species, the variation in the type of leaves create the difference. It is one of the most common aquarium plants and is used by the aquarists all over the world. Since it is one of those plants which are undemanding their demand is always high. If you have provided a suitable substrate and enriched the aquarium with water column supplementation, no one can stop your plant to flourish.

Appearance: Echinodorus parviflorus Tropica is a rosette plant and propagates through adventitious plantlets. The leaves give sword like appearance due to which it is also named as Dwarf Amazon sword plant by the aquarists. It is advised to prune off the old and damaged leaves after regular intervals by removing them from the crown of the plant. It is essential to remove the plants without damaging the rhizome carefully. Iron deficiency is the primary concern while growing Echinodorus parviflorus Tropica, therefore, placing root tabs at the base of the plant can do the needful. A frequent misting of the leaves and keeping the soil moist is also advisable for better plant growth.

Ideal water temperature: It thrives well when the temperature is between 20 – 28 degrees Celsius.

Lighting conditions: It can grow perfectly in low to very high light intensity. If you need the plant to remain small in size and compact, a dim-light will fulfill the requirement.

Ideal pH Level: The water needs to have a pH up to 8.0.

Do you know: The plant was developed in 1985 by the Danish botanists Niels Jacobsen and Lauritz Holm-Nielsen. It was named after the aquatic nursery where the two botanists developed it.
