Overview: Limnophila aquatica ‘Giant green’ is a robust green aquarium plant that is popular for its fast growth and green foliage. As the name clearly indicates, Limnophila aquatica ‘Giant Green’ is a large plant; therefore, it is commonly used as a midground or background plant. The tall and bushy appearance makes it perfect for growing at the back and creating a green aquascape in the tank. It is native to southeast Asia and can be seen growing in ponds, streams, and marshes. The hardy nature makes it further suitable for growing under varied water parameters.

Appearance: From the long and lanced-shaped leaves to the bright and vibrant green color, everything about Limnophila aquatica ‘Giant green’ is astounding. The edges of the leaves can be seen to have reddish tinge, which further makes the plant more beautiful. It can attain height of 30 to 34 cm under favourable conditions. It makes it taller than most of the other species of Limnophila. If you want to create a bushy background that can create a lush green look, Limnophila aquatica ‘Giant green’ will be the best choice.

Hard/Soft Plant: In general, Limnophila aquatica ‘Giant green’ is a hardy plant as it can survive under minor fluctuations of water parameters. However, you should still try to maintain the right parameters to help plants stay strong and healthy.

Ideal Water Temperature: The ideal temperature for Limnophila aquatica ‘Giant green’ is between 22 and 28 degrees Celsius. Being a plant of tropical regions, it is better to keep it under warm water conditions for the best growth.

Lighting Conditions: Limnophila aquatica ‘Giant green’ requires moderate to high light conditions to generate a vibrant green color on the leaves. Under low light, the leaves stay dull and less vibrant. Proper light will also ensure that the plant will have a reddish hue on the edges of the leaves.

Ideal pH Level: This plant requires a pH between 6 and 7.5 for proper growth and development, which is typical to other tropical freshwater aquatic plants as well.

Other Requirements: Limnophila aquatica ‘Giant green’ will benefit hugely when the substrate is rich in nutrients and offers enough minerals and nutrients to the plant. Liquid fertilizers or root tabs are advised for the best growth. Water hardness should be between 4 and 12 GH, and additional carbon dioxide will promote faster growth and richer coloration.

Propagation: Limnophila aquatica can be propagated by cuttings. Cut a healthy stem of the plant just below the leaf node and replant it into the substrate. If there are leaves around the nodes, remove them before replanting. Under favorable water conditions, the plant will develop roots and grow into a new plant.

Do You Know: The bushy growth of Limnophila aquatica ‘Giant green’ calls for regular trimming. It will encourage even bushier and heavier growth and bring more lush greenery to the tank. When you are seeking a tall aquatic plant for background, this is the best choice.
