Rotala Wallichi Red - Tissue culture Aquatic Plant

Overview: Rotala Wallichi Red is native to Southeast Asia and is highly popular in aquaculture for its fine, needle-like leaves and lively colors. It is a delicate stem plant that develops vibrant red and pink colors under proper water conditions. Those who want to create contrasting effects in the aquarium, giving depth and texture to the aquascape, can add Rotala Wallichi Red in their tank. The plant attains medium height, thus can be grown as a midground or background plant. In addition, the stunning hues it gives make it stand out from the rest of the aquatic plants. The best part is you can transform its color by adjusting light; for instance, under high light it develops intense red color whereas moderate light will keep the hues pinkish red. High lighting condition also gives it dense and feathery growth.

There are zero chances of contamination when you grow a tissue culture plant in the tank, making them ideal for new and already-established tanks. Another benefit is that tissue culture plants are healthy, making them easy to establish and acclimatize in a tank. It ensures they survive better and proliferate rapidly.

Care: Remove the tissue culture gel you see on the roots of the plants before adding it to the tank. It can be done by rinsing it under clean water. Plant them a few centimeters apart, ensuring there will be enough space for them to grow in the later stages as well. Good space will encourage proper growth. You may need to trim or prune the plant after regular intervals to ensure bushier and compact growth. Pruning will encourage new shoots to develop.

Light requirements: Rotala Wallichi Red performs the best when it is given high light conditions. High light intensity will bring out characteristic red and pink colors on the leaves. It will also promote healthy and dense growth. Moderate light will bring greener tones, and the plant will grow tall. On the other hand, low light will fade the vibrancy of the leaves, leaving the plant under stress. Make sure you provide a consistent lighting of 8–10 hours a day for the best results.

pH requirement: The ideal pH range for Rotala Wallichii Red is between 6.0 and 7.5. Keeping the water alkaline will ensure the plant attains the best coloration and overall health. Make sure the other water parameters are also stable and consistent.

Other requirements: There is no need to add extra carbon dioxide as Rotala Wallichii Red can survive without it. However, if you are supplementing, it will only enhance the colors and promote compact and vibrant growth. Maintain temperature between 22 and 28 degrees Celsius. In addition, you may also have a nutrient-rich substrate by adding liquid fertilizers that will ensure strong root development and vibrant coloration.
