Overview: The 'Starlite' cultivar of Syngonium is one of the unique ones that is popular for its variegated leaves and striking patterns. The green leaves, having hues of white, silver, and pale green, look extremely attractive. The growing pattern of Syngonium 'Starlite' is trailing as a vine. Native to 'Central' and 'South' America, Syngonium 'Starlite' is easy to care for and maintain, making it suitable for beginners. One can easily grow it in the terrarium and increase the aesthetic of the place.

Appearance: The stunning variegated heart-shaped leaves of Syngonium 'Starlite are its major attraction. These leaves are pale green in color in the initial stages and gradually develop a variegated pattern of creamy white or silvery hues on maturing. The leaves are soft, having a metallic sheen, thus the name 'Starlite.' While the typical growing pattern is as a trailing vine, when trained, it becomes upright and showcases its dramatic variegation. The vine-like stems are typically thin and flexible, which makes it easy to propagate and adjust to different growing conditions.

Light requirements: Syngonium 'Starlite' prefers bright, indirect light. While low light is tolerable, the leaves will lose the variegation and become greener. Therefore, to attain the best colors and variegated pattern, place the plant in an area where it gets filtered sunlight, such as near the window with sheer curtains. Avoid direct sunlight, as it will scorch the leaves.

Soil requirements: Light, airy and well-drained soil is considered the best for Syngonium 'Starlite' to grow properly and thrive. You can add perlite, sand, orchid bark, etc. to improve the drainage. This ensures the roots won't sit in stagnant water, which can cause root rot. A slightly acidic to neutral pH (5.5–7.0) is ideal for Syngonium 'Starlite.'

Humidity: To stay healthy Syngonium 'Starlite' prefers moderate to high humid conditions. The more is the humidity level, the better is the variegation and vibrancy of the plant. Too dry air, especially during the winter months put the plant under stress. Therefore, occasional misting is a must. You can also keep the plant on humidity tray or in the bathroom for the best results.

Watering: Water the plant only when the top soil (about 1-2 inches) feels dry to the touch. Keep the soil slightly moist but avoid water logging conditions as it may cause root rot.

Air circulation: Proper air circulation will help Syngonium 'Starlite' to stay healthy. Do not place the plant in a completely stagnant environment as it will encourage the common issues such as mold and mildew. In closed environments like terrariums, providing occasional ventilation will help prevent fungal issues.

Trimming: Trimming or pruning will maintain the shape of the plant in the terrarium and also promote bushier and fuller growth. Besides, remove the yellowing and damaged leaves so that the plant looks neat. Syngonium is quite resilient and will respond well to pruning. You can also propagate the cuttings in water or directly in soil to grow new plants.

Other requirements: Feed Syngonium 'Starlite' once a month, especially during the growing season, with a balanced, diluted fertilizer. Remember, over-fertilization can lead to weak growth, so always dilute the fertilizer to avoid burning the plant. Syngonium 'Starlite' doesn't require frequent repotting. Repot the plant every 1-2 years or when it becomes root-bound.
