Hygrophila Sp. Quadrivalvis - Broad Leaf

Overview: Hygrophila Sp. Quadrivalvis - Broad Leaf is native to Southeast Asia and is one of the striking and fast-growing aquarium plants. The large and lush leaves of the plant help to get a striking and bold look in the aquascape. Since it grows and spreads well, planting it as a background plant and giving a dense backdrop will accentuate the look of the aquarium. Since it is one of the least demanding aquarium plants and is easy to care for, beginner aquarists can also grow it in their tank. Adding Hygrophila Sp. Quadrivalvis will increase volume and texture in a planted tank.

Appearance: The leaves of Hygrophila Sp. Quadrivalvis are broad in size and oval to oblong in shape. These leaves can grow several centimeters wide and long under favourable water conditions. The color of the leaves is vibrant green, and the texture is smooth. They grow opposite each other along the upright stem. Once the plant matures, it forms tall and bushy clusters that move with gentle water movements.

Hard/Soft Plant: Hygrophila Sp. Quadrivalvis is a soft plant with tender leaves. They may be damaged with rough handling or when there are aggressive fish in the tank. While the leaves are soft, the plant grows robust and can tolerate minor fluctuations in water parameters.

Ideal Water Temperature: The suitable water temperature range for Hygrophila Sp. Quadrivalvis is between 22°C to 28°C. Under this range, there will be healthy leaf development and rapid growth. Here, you need to check if the temperature drops suddenly, as it may lead to stunted growth and leaf loss. This plant works best when tropical climatic conditions are offered to it.

Lighting Conditions: Moderate to high lighting will help Hygrophila Sp. Quadrivalvis to flourish. While moderate lighting will ensure tall growth and well-spaced leaves, high lighting will promote compact growth and leaf formation. These lighting conditions will also enhance the color of the leaves, making them bright green. Low light will lead to slow and leggy growth.
